The Google Bounce

01/21/12 | by admin [mail] | Categories: Uncategorized

I have been watching a lot of my SEO customers keyword positions in Google.  I noticed what I call the Google bounce.  Lets say I optimize a site for it's keywords and the keywords get a ranking in Google.  Then I start backlinking those keywords on high page rank sites that are somewhat relevant to the subject of the site.  When Google starts recognizing the backlinks a bounce beginsd to happen.

What I mean by the Google bounce is that the position in the search engines varies.  It gets better then it gets worse and like a roller coaster keeps going up and down.  This means that Google is recognizing the backlinks and you need to keep backlinking.  Once you backlink enough the bounce will migrate to higher rankings until the site has a top 10 position.

Now, also make sure your on page seo factors are there.  Look at the sites in the top 10 and try to do somilar things in your seo.  If the seo is done properly then the bounce will end up in the top 10 in the end.

On Page SEO For Google

I started my first Internet marketing company in 1998.  One day I started building basic web sites for people and reselling web hosting services.  I found that all the sites I built were in the top 10 in Excite.   At that time Search Engine Optimization was completely on page factors.  Some search engines like Lycos would give paid advertisers better listings in the FREE organic search.

Before the Google panda update a lot of web sites were getting search engine listing by spaming a lot of low quality and non relevant backlinks.  After the Google Panda update, many of these sites lost their top listings.  When backlinking make sure to create relevant backlinks.  It may be better to get a monthly service that creates 100 backlinks a month, than to create thousands of backlinks in a short period of time.  Google wants to see a natural increase in backlinks.  They also want to see relevant backlinks.   The best type of backlink may be a blog or forum comment.   Here recently I started a discussion at hostingdiscussion.com and the page is now a PR 3 page.  After the Google Panda 2 update, on page SEO is now more like it was 10 years ago.

How Google Rates Your Relevant Backlinks

10/15/11 | by admin [mail] | Categories: Uncategorized

This time I would like to talk about relevant backlinks.  Google has created something called Page Rank.  This is different than your Alexa ranking.  It used to be that an SEO expert would get your site into the TOP 10 by on page SEO techniques.  Don't get me wrong.  This can still be done.  Although, they say that your on page SEO is only 25% of your SEO efforts.

Here in the last couple years a very important part of SEO is backlinking.  There are a lot of types of backlinks that a web site owner can get.  Yet, the backlink with the heaviest weight is a relative backlinks.  Let me explain what a relative backlink is.

Lets say you have a web site selling widgets.  You decide you want to do some relative backlinking.  So you proceed to scrape the Internet search engines for relative backlinks from blogs, forums, article directories, search directories and so on.  The thing that determines whether or not these will be relative links, is the subject matter of the site you are putting the backlink on.  If the forum is a forum about widgets and the blogis a blog about widgets or closely related to widgets, then your backlink will be relevant.

I am not saying don't get a backlink if it is not relevant.  This strategy will highly diversify your backlinking strategies.  Yet, the relevant backlink will have more influence on your search listings and page rank than a link that is not relative.  Also the higher the page rank the page your link is on, the more it will help to improve your listings in Google and Bing.

Social Media & Internet Marketing

10/10/11 | by admin [mail] | Categories: Uncategorized

I have been doing Internet marketing since 1998.  It used to be that Internet marketing was mostly getting a top 10 listing in the search engines.  Today even though that top listing is incredibly important, social media has become one of the most important parts of Internet marketing.

In my last blog post I talked about backlinking.  There can be times when social media marketing can help a backlinking campaign.  Although I did some research and Facebook, MySpace and Linkedin are all "n0follow" sites. For those of you who don't know what "nofollow" is, it means that the search engines can't follow a link that is posted.  What a shame.  Facebook is a PR 10 site.  I wish it was "dofollow".

With this in mind the idea behind the most popular social networking sites is not backlinking.  The idea is to use the medium to socially build huge networks of followers and friends.  Some small percentage of these followers will be interested in what you have to offer, sell or say.

Lets talk about Facebook.  If you are a company that is promoting a product or service, I highly suggest creating a facebook account.  Create posts on your wall talking about your services, blog and anything else you are trying to market.  Put your products and services in the Facebook marketplace as well.  There is a possibility that someone will want to buy.  Aimlessly add friends as well as add friends that will make you more popular.  Find celebrities, CEO's, etc.

Have you ever created a twitter account?  Have you ever tweeted.  I thought I saw a tweety bird. I did. I did.  If you have not yet began your social network marketing campaign it is time to start.  The highest traffic sites on the Internet, with the highest page rank, are social networking sites.  There are literally millions of people on these sites.  Twitter is on the news almost every day. The most famous people in the world are tweeting and everyone reads the tweets.

Have you ever thought about viral marketing?  Do you go to YouTube to watch videos?  I was watching the news and thisd company made a tooth brush.  They didn't even sell one.  In a last ditch effort to sell their tooth brush they created a YouTube commercial.  To their surprise they got millions of hits and sold out.  If it was not for the YouTube commercial they may not have sold any.  How many people have you heard of that have become famous through YouTube?  We hear about these people frequently.

I am in the process of producing a YouTube commercial to help sell my web hosting services.  I figured that being I am consulting with people about how to market their businesses on the Internet, I might as well put my company on YouTube.  What if I get a million hits because of it?

Quality Backlinking and Achieving Top 10 Listings in Google and Bing

There are many types of backlinks that can be spun to sites throughout the Internet.  These can include forum profiles, forum posts, blogs, blog comments, articles, directory listings and blog syndication.  In the beginning of backlinking it was thought that creating thousands of forum profiles would drive a web site into the top 10 in Google.  Some say that with the Google Panda update forum profiles are not as effective as they used to be.  I have not seen any proof that this is true.   It is an assumption.

Here recently I did some research into backlinking.  The best backlink that can be linked is a relative backlink, where the link exists on a page that in itself is a high page rank page.  The reason for this is when there are relative links pointing at your site that are high PR, Google will give more weight to your linking.  The best way to get your link on a high page rank page is to find blogs that are high page rank.  The important thing is to have your comment listed on a page that has a high page rank.  Now keep this in mind.  Even though the home page of the blog site may have a high page rank, the actual blog page you are commenting on may be PR 0.  The idea here is to post comments on a blog page that is PR 4+.

I am not saying don't create forum profiles.  This can also help.  Now granted, a new forum profile page will always be a PR 0 page, but some day your forum profile page could get some page rank.  Also, the idea behind forum profiles is to have thousands of profile pages throughout the Internet, to have a mixture of different kinds of backlinks.  Once you have created profile pages in high page rank forums,  I suggest finding forum posts that are on a high page rank page and answering the post or commenting on the post.   This will add some weight to your backlinking strategies.  The more high page rank pages your link is on, the more weight Google will give to your backlinking.

Another type of backlink is to post articles in article directories.  Keep in mind that when you create a new article be sure to write content that will be interesting for the reader and is on a subject that people want to read about.  When you first post the article your article will be on a PR 0 page.  The idea is to post an interesting article with quality content on a high page rank article site.  Hopefully one day your articles page will be high page rank and will increase the weight of your backlinking campaign.

Another type of backlink is to submit your site to thousands of high page rank directories.  Most likely the page your listing is on will be PR 0.  The idea behind this is to have your listing in as many directories as possible.  In the highest page rank directories buy some featured listings.  This will cost you some money, but you have a better chance of having your link on a high page rank page. I am not saying that a page that is PR 0 won't one day become PR 4+.  It may.  Quite often when sites get more popular many pages on the site will increase in page rank.

There are numerous sites throughout the Internet called blog directories.  These directories link to blogs throughout the Internet.  The other type of backlink is blog syndication.  This means you need to write your own blog on your domain, then syndicate it out to thousands of blog directories.

The concept behind backlinking is to get your site more exposure to the Internet user and to the search engines.  The more links that are pointing at your site, the more it will get indexed by Google and the more traffic you will get from prospective buyers.
