English (US)   The Top Three  -  Categories: Background  -  @ 11:22:17 pm

Many businesses establish an Internet presence, but do not SEO the site and then hope that people will find it. This is not reality. In order for people to find your site you need to either learn how to SEO your own site or hire a professional to SEO your site.

The next question is what search engines do you focus on? The top three search engines are Google, MSN and Yahoo. To have a successful SEO campaign you need to start by optimizing your site for the top three. This can take about three months to position your web site in the top 10. But, according to most SEO experts optimization for Google has changed. Google puts more weight on links than most other search engines. Plus, they store a cookie in your browser which keeps track of what sites you go to. Then the next time you go to Google and type in the same keyword Google will first display listings from sites you have visited, before it displays organic listings. For an SEO expert it is easier to rank a site in an organic listing, than based on what you have previously visited. Because of this change in the Google algorithm SEO has become more complex, and if you want to get your site listed in Google and be in the TOP 10 then I suggest that you work on your Google listing now, or you may not be able to achieve a top Google listing for those who have already searched for your keyword. The Google control panel allows for a Google user to opt to only view an organic search, but by default the search is based on previously visited web sites.

Even though Google has changed the way it indexes sites, Yahoo and MSN still position sites based on an organic search.
