I remember in 2001 when Yahoo was primarily a Directory based search engine. Yahoo was a web directory, not a search engine. You were able to do an organic search, but it was not powered by yahoo and the majority of their traffic was for their web directory. Much like the yellow paqges the Yahoo directory was in Alphabetical order. Also, their listings were included in the directory manually.
Here in the last couple of years Yahoo is primarily an organic search engine. They no longer have a directory listing on the home page.
